Dave Herring

Dave Herring is the Executive Director of Wolfe’s Neck Center for Agriculture & the Environment. In his role, Dave leads a team of 40 staff across 8 states working to create a world where agriculture and food systems support farmer viability, thriving ecosystems, and vibrant communities. Since 2012, Dave has overseen the growth of the organization from a farm to a farm-based education, research, and visitor center with programs operating at the local, regional and national levels. Under Dave’s leadership, Wolfe’s Neck Center opened an organic dairy and apprenticeship program, invested in capital to support programmatic growth, stewarded a more than 600 acre campus with regenerative agricultural practices, and launched new programs to provide training and technical assistance to farmers to advance agriculture and mitigate the effects of a changing climate.

Dave has held leadership and management roles in nonprofit organizations for more than 25 years. Prior to joining Wolfe’s Neck Center, Dave served as the inaugural Executive Director of Maine Huts & Trails from 2006 to 2012. While there, Dave oversaw the completion of three backcountry lodges, more than 50 miles of multi-use trails, and raised over $10m to support land conservation and the development of ecotourism. In 2017, Dave was named as one of Maine 50 Visionary Leaders by the Maine Media Collective. He has a B.S. from Michigan State University’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and a graduate certificate from Boston University’s Institute for Nonprofit Leadership and Management. Dave, along with his wife and two daughters live just outside of Portland, Maine.
