Q- Why did you choose to participate in the art auction with Wolfe’s Neck Center specifically, what about our organization or our mission is something that feels connected to you?
A- We both share a love of animals and through our efforts try to educate people about the living things in their environment. The overall concept of my work is what I call
“Shared Environment” which highlights the often humorous interactions between humans and animals in a shared space.
Q- What inspires you?
A- The animals!, humor, bright colors, empathy, paint, nature.
Q- What’s your process of combining all of those things? Did it take a while to figure out how you would want to put all of it into your art?
A- I’ve always painted animals and through conversations with my husband Danny I realized that an effective tool would be to utilize humor and lean in on a more Pop art style to create the message about these wonderful animals that we live with.
Q- What role do you see your art playing in the world?
A- The overall goal is to help create compassion for the animals that we live with. I try to do this by creating work that lightens the mood, makes someone smile and brings joy. My artwork is the foundation of an apparel business that my husband and I share; our hats, shirts, bags and stickers allow access to my artwork allowing the message to reach a greater audience. A friend of mine in the outdoor industry once said to me “We have enough save the trees shirts and products” she liked that I was telling the story in another way that might resonate
Q- Is this your first time participating in the art auction?
A- Yes, this is my first time participating in the auction.
Q- Have you worked in other mediums before?
A- Yes I have, when I was at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago I worked mostly in clay but ultimately gravitated to painting.
Q- Do you have a favorite animal that you create?
A- I love painting raccoons, they are ambassadors for the amazing adaptability of animals in an environment which we humans are constantly changing on them.
