Kara Weinstein

Kara joins OpenTEAM Project Manager for Farmer Data Stewardship. In this role, she will leverage her expertise in food systems facilitation, project management, and stakeholder engagement to support the development of farmer-centered data management practices and resources within the OpenTEAM network.

Working as a farmer’s market manager in New York City during her graduate degree, reaffirmed Kara’s belief in supporting regional food systems. As her relationships deepened with the food producers, they showed Kara the Hudson Valley’s bounty and the vibrant agricultural community. Kara has since dedicated her career to building dynamic, regional food systems across the country and globally. Prior to WNC, Kara ran her own food systems consultancy, KHW Strategies LLC where she supported farmers, processors, and other food producers in strategic planning, project management, and grant writing. Kara Weinstein holds a Master of Arts in Food Studies from New York University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a minor in Environmental Policy and Culture from Northwestern University. She also possesses certifications as an NYC Master Composter and has completed the Beekeeping Education Program at Brooklyn Grange. In her free time, Kara can be found in her garden, exploring new cuisines, hiking with her puppy, or reading a good book.
